Ibadan – In a remarkable academic feat, twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have graduated from the University of Ibadan with identical first-class honours. The University of Ibadan twin graduates both achieved an outstanding CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00 in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Their identical top scores earned them the distinction of being the best graduating students in both their department and the entire Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Consistent Excellence and Leadership

Throughout their demanding engineering program, the Busoye brothers maintained exceptionally high academic standards. Matthias reported yearly GPAs of 3.84, 3.92, 3.95, and 3.94, while Matthew earned 3.89, 3.94, 3.93, and 3.93. “Our journey through university was marked by consistent academic excellence and leadership contributions,” Matthias shared. Expressing humility, Matthew added, “This still feels surreal… My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving… But for some reason, we are here.” Their story as University of Ibadan twin graduates stands out for this combined excellence.
Recognition and Celebration
The brothers’ accomplishments extended beyond academics. Matthias served as the Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the UI Students’ Representative Council, while Matthew led the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) as President. SEEEES formally celebrated them as the overall best graduating students. Their achievements were met with loud applause during their induction ceremony at the University of Ibadan, and a widely shared photo captured a touching moment of their mother praying with them in celebration.
