Abuja, Nigeria – The United States Embassy in Nigeria has revised the US visa interview requirements Nigeria, effective April twenty-second. Applicants attending interviews in Abuja and Lagos must comply with a new rule concerning the DS- application form barcode.
New Barcode Requirement
All applicants must present their DS- confirmation page at the interview. This page contains a barcode. The barcode number must start with “AA” followed by two zeroes AA. Critically, this barcode must be identical to the barcode number used when scheduling the visa appointment online. Additionally, applicants must attend the interview in the city Abuja or Lagos they selected when completing the DS- form. DS- forms from previous applications cannot be reused.
Action Required by Applicants
Applicants are advised to verify their DS- barcode number matches their appointment barcode number. This check should be done at least two weeks before the interview date. If the numbers do not match, the applicant must request a correction via a support ticket in their AVITS account. This request must be submitted at least ten days before the interview.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Failure to meet these updated US visa interview requirements Nigeria will result in denial of entry to the Consular Section. Applicants with mismatched barcodes will not be permitted to attend their visa interview. If turned away, the applicant must correct the barcode issue and then schedule a new appointment through their AVITS account. A new visa fee payment may be required if the original fee has expired.
The U.S. Embassy indicates these changes aim to streamline visa processing. For the most current information, refer to the U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Nigeria website. You may find related information in our General Visa Information section.
