Woman Remanded Over Alleged Attack on Boyfriend’s Genitals

ADO-EKITI – A Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered 20-year-old Joy Ikoja remanded in custody. She faces charges for allegedly attacking her boyfriend and injuring his genitals.

The Ekiti State Police Command brought Ikoja to court. Police accuse her of tearing the scrotal sac of Ibrahim Usman during an argument on April 12.

Prosecutor Inspector Adeboye Adesegun told the court the incident happened around 8:00 p.m. in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.

Adesegun stated: “The defendant… did unlawfully inflict a wound on one Ibrahim Usman by tearing his scrotal sac.” He added that her alleged actions also disturbed the peace.

The charges against Ikoja include assault and causing bodily harm, falling under Sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Ikoja’s lawyer, Barrister David Ogbede, argued for bail. He stated his client is presumed innocent and would not flee.

However, the prosecutor opposed bail. Adesegun told the court Ikoja might be a flight risk. He mentioned she was involved in a previous court case using a different name, raising identity concerns.

Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola agreed with the prosecution and denied bail. Daramola cited the risk that Ikoja might abscond.

The magistrate ordered Ikoja held at the Correctional Custody in Ado-Ekiti until the next hearing. The case was adjourned to April 22.
